Northern Cardinal

Note: all the Canada Geese on the ice behind us. I lost count!
Pileated Woodpecker

Great Blue Heron

Mallards

What we saw:
Great Blue Heron – 4
Mallards – 6
Canada Geese (more than we could count!)
Downey Woodpecker – 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker – 3
Pileated Woodpecker – 1
American Crows – 3
House Sparrows – 20
Northern Cardinals – 2, pair
Tufted Titmouse – 1
Carolina Chickadee – 3
American Robins – 10

It was 12 degrees F. Clear at first then turned to snow around noon so we left before the roads got too bad. My daughter actually spotted the Great Blue Heron herself. The Canada Geese were everywhere, mixed in with the Heron and the Mallards. They kept scaring the others with all their squawking. It was to the point of being ridiculous. We also saw a bunch of song birds and woodpeckers. The deeper water in one area of the park was completely frozen over. We did a little watching from the car in one area where the song birds and woodpeckers were landing on the road and flying back and forth across the road. It was cold!
