Sunday Outing – March 1, 2009

What we saw:
Pileated Woodpecker 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
American Crow 3
Carolina Chickadee 5
White-breasted Nuthatch 1
Brown Creeper 1
Turkey Vulture 1
Canada Goose 6
Carolina Wren 1
Downey Woodpecker 2
Northern Cardinal 1
Belted Kingfisher 1
White-throated Sparrow 1
Eastern Bluebird 4

Temp was 22-27 degrees. Cold, sunny and crisp.

We took the new binoculars and both pairs worked out wonderfully. My daughter was really excited to have her own and had them glued to her face the whole time. What a proud birding mommy that made me. The Turkey Vulture is a first for us and WOW what an ugly bird. Still a very cool moment to share with my daughter. We joke about wandering around in the woods and walking under a flock of perching wild turkeys. So we have a Turkey Vulture, still looking for those Wild Turkeys though.

Stay tuned for my daughters very, very awesome find of the day! It wasn’t even while we were at out birding spot. It is getting it’s own post… next.
