Sunday Outing – March 14, 2010

Even with all the flooding and cold, nasty weather I was able to see a few birds.  Nothing new but still had fun and got a good workout in with all the extra hiking around flooded areas.  43 degrees F.  Here are my counts:

Location 1:

  • 1 wood duck (m)
  • 1 great blue heron
  • 2 red-bellied woodpecker (1 m, 1 f)
  • 1 eastern phoebe
  • 2 carolina chickadee
  • 1 tufted titmouse

Eastern Phoebe, that is not snow in the background, that is foaming/rushing water.

Location 2:

  • 6 canada goose
  • 20 mallard (9 f, 11 m)
  • 7 ring-necked ducks (1 f, 6 m)
  • 1 red-bellied woodpecker (m)
  • 1 downy woodpecker (f)
  • 1 red-bellied woodpecker (m)
  • 1 eastern phoebe
  • 4 carolina chickadee
  • 4 tufted titmouse
  • 1 brown creeper
  • 2 carolina wren
  • 1 song sparrow
  • 1 white-throated sparrow
  • 4 northern cardinal (1 f, 3 m)

Location 3:

  • 3 canada goose
  • 4 mallard (2 f, 2 m)
  • 1 pileated woodpecker
  • 1 eastern bluebird (m)
  • 10 american robin
  • 10 european starling
  • 1 red-winged blackbird (m)Pair of American Robins
